Response-Based Practice Certificate Programs
We currently provide three levels of Certificate Training in Response-Based Practice, all of which are cohort based.
Introduction to Response-Based Practice
Level 1 is an 8-month structured program designed to engage with colleagues who aim to develop their understanding and application of Response-Based Practice. This program is designed as an introduction to RBP and is also suitable for those who wish to expand their knowledge and application of this framework. Groups meet monthly for 3 hours, with readings and assignments between meetings.
”I genuinely recommend this course for anyone who works within the DV, family violence or IPV space to upskill their ethics, language, mindset and practice. It really makes you take an anti-oppressive approach to gendered violence. It's been useful to me as both a counsellor and clinical supervisor.
Application of Response-Based Practice
Level 2 is a 6-month program with focus on the application of Response-Based ideas in practice. This is cohort-based, with emphasis on creating opportunities for discussion of the RBP framework and the diverse settings that professionals are working in. Some of the activities include: Contextual analysis, RBP Interviewing, Report writing, deconstructing articles, viewing RBP counselling sessions (live and video). Classes meet monthly for 2 hours, with readings and assignments between classes.

”“I feel very fortunate to have found the Response-Based Center and to have had the opportunity to complete the three training programs in which I enrolled. I have learned so much from each of you, and my colleagues. The Level 1 Response-Based Practice training shaped many of my intuitions and allowed me to rethink how safety, dignity, and justice are present in our work, as well as how to sustain and encourage them. Level 2 allowed me to further refine these ideas and see them play out in my colleagues' shared cases. It has been exciting. The training has also helped me in another way. In my country, this sensitivity to the responses of the people we try to help is virtually absent because the trauma model predominates. Hearing from and discussing with you made me feel supported, and I will miss that now that the training is over.”
